Psi Chi's NICE CROWD project

Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology, has issued a call for contributors for Psi Chi’s annual, guided, international, crowd-sourced, research program, NICE: Crowd.

Each year, the NICE committee selects one or two research proposals for global data collection. The selected projects are promoted through Psi Chi to collect data collaboratively from many locations using the same research protocol. NICE: Crowd offers a plethora of benefits to researchers such as: reducing the burden of having to solicit large numbers of participants, increasing the diversity of study samples, providing researchers with accessible materials and protocols, and providing a convenient platform for faculty to engage students in the scientific research process. Each project uses open materials, open data, and preregistration. All materials are hosted on the Open Science Framework (OSF).

The most recently selected Crowd project is “The effect of culture on the impostor syndrome.” The impostor syndrome is emerging as a paramount psychological phenomenon among western business owners. But how does intellectual phoniness vary across international cultures? This uniquely practical and interdisciplinary research breaks new ground as we seek to explain the impostor syndrome through the lens of cultural tightness/looseness.

Contributors are asked to recruit 150 adult participants who hold a full-time job and administer an anonymous, self-report survey estimated to take 15-20 minutes to complete. Data collection for contributors will take place from January to June 2023. The first step to becoming a contributor is to email  nicechair@psichi.org.
